What is Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?

Semaglutide (Brand name is Wegovy, Ozempic, and Rybelsus) is a GLP-1, (glucagon-
like peptide 1) an FDA-approved once a week injectable weight loss medication.
It was originally developed to help manage type 2 diabetes but has since been
found to be very effective in helping patients with chronic weight management.
Tirzepatide (Brand name is Mounjaro) is an approved medication that works
through dual receptors GLP-1/GIP. Recently approved for Type 2 diabetes and
newest form of weight loss. The efficacy and safety of once-a-week injection
works similar to Semaglutide, but for some it works better because it stimulates

two satiety hormone receptors instead of just one.
 

How does it work?

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide both stimulate activity in the areas of the brain
involved in appetite regulation to reduce the feelings of hunger. It slows down
how fast your stomach empties food (called gastric emptying). This leads to a
feeling of fullness (satiety) and satisfaction with smaller portion of meal sizes.

How is it administered?

Semaglutide or Tirzepatide is injected just under the skin (subcutaneously) in the
abdomen, upper arm, or thigh. You will self-administer the medication once per
week, one the same day each week. Our clinicians will teach you how to properly

and safely administer the medication.

Is it safe and effective?

Yes, Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are both considered to be safe and effective when
used as indicated. The largest clinical trial for Semaglutide revealed an average

reduction of 15% of initial body weight and nearly a third of participants lost 20%
of their weight. The trial included 2,000 obese adults. Clinical trials for
Tirzepatide revealed an average reduction of 15.7%-22.5% of initial body weight.
